Finding my love for sports media…
Elementary-High school
Starting from a young age I was involved in a number of sports, whether it was on the sidelines watching my siblings or cousins or on the playing field as a teammate. My interest in sports grew as did my time spent as an athlete. I evolved from a once-a-week AYSO player to a year-round athlete who played multiple sports, many of which overlapped throughout the year. I was fortunate to play three sports in high school on teams that not only won multiple sectional titles but also earned spots in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association girls soccer state tournament, placing second and third my junior and senior year, respectively..
High school (off the field)
During the fall of my sophomore year, I found my sisters old camera in our shared closet and decided it would be cool to bring it to football games to take pictures with my friends. This turned out to be the start of my love for being behind the camera. I quickly became known as “the girl with the camera” and was constantly being asked by classmates and teachers if I would take photos at events.. I found myself preferring to capture moments on which we could all look back.. In my free time, I attended friends’ games and obtained experience in sports photography, which fueled my passion to combine both my love for sports and my love for photography into a career for which I am well-suited.
College
Midway through my senior year I made the decision to not play sports in college and to attend a small community college close to home. I quickly discovered that I missed being involved with sports and sought a way to be within the sports world again. After multiple emails and a phone call with the Vice President of Marketing and Content for the Utica Comets, I was offered a position as the social media intern. After my first year of community college I transferred to my current institution and joined the division three women’s lacrosse team, once again allowing me to be a part of the sports world from yet a different perspective - that of a college athlete.
Where am I now?
I am in my second year as the social media intern for the Utica Comets and Utica City FC teams. I attend every home game to help manage and update the social media accounts such as X, Facebook, and Instagram. I share live updates throughout the game including the starting line up/lines, goals, end of period/quarter scores, final score game graphics, and uploading any videos provided by our videographer. I also go into the office on non-game days when needed to assist with daily tasks such as filming short promotional content, updating the website, and tagging photos on the team’s Flickr account.
